Tatton Triumph!!! Blog 1 –
Okay – so to say I’m a little happy now is a bit of an understatement!! I’ve just been placed 1st in the UK in the British Florist Associations Young Florist of the Year semi-finals, held at RHS Tatton Park yesterday! The Young Florist of the Year competition is a pretty big deal for us florists, as it’s our national competition to find the best young talent (under 25 years old) to represent the UK in the European Young Florist Championships. The European Young Florist Championships, also called Eurofleurs, is held every 2 years, and up to 20 different countries compete to win this prestigious cup – which co-incidentally is being held next year at Tatton also!!
Yes, so ok, I have already won the BFA Young Florist of the Year competition before (back in 2007 when I was a wee young thing) but I’m trying my hand at it again to have another chance at the amazing European final.
Today we had to design and make five different pieces:
A Body Adornment to be worn at a gala dinnerA funeral tribute for a poetA presentation hand tied bouquetA free standing arrangement to stand in a foyerAnd our surprise task – to decorate an Asian Umbrella using only the few flowers and materials given to us!!
After 10 hours of competition in a marquee surrounded my countless members of the public – it turns out I won first place overall!
Woooo!! I’ve added a few images for your viewing pleasure – let us know what you think - and roll on October 25th (the date of the final) for (hopefully) another announcement! Also, a BIG THANKYOU to Fishlocks for sponsoring all the botanical material needed for the competition – the flowers were ace!!!! J
