Beautiful Valentines Flowers - The Perfect Gift
Back in Roman times there was a feast of Juno on February 14th. Juno was the queen of Roman Gods and Goddesses. February 15th marked the start of the feast of Lupercalia. On the Eve of Lupercalia, it was tradition that all young roman Girls would write their names on a piece of paper and place it in a heart shaped bowl. Young men of similar age would draw a single name from the bowl and that would be their partner for the duration of the festival. Sometimes the pairing would last to the end of the year and many fell in love and married. The Emperor of the time Claudius was trying to expand his Empire and therefore needed more people for his Army. He had noticed that many young Roman males were not joining the army because they were marrying young or wishing to stay with their families, so Claudius decreed that all engagements and marriages should be cancelled.
Valentine a Priest continued to secretly marry young Romans in private until he was caught, imprisoned and sentenced to death. Whilst in prison, he started to receive notes of love and flowers from people he had helped. He even received visits from supporters and in particular from the daughter of the Prison Guard. They fell in love , and before his execution, Valentine left a note for this girl thanking her for her love and friendship and signed it 'from your Valentine'.
To this day February 14th is a day where people remember and think about love and friendship and reflect that whatever happens in life, Love cannot be beaten !
Valentine became immortalized as people remember and celebrate St. Valentines Day every February 14th.
