Beautiful Valentines Flowers - The Perfect Gift

Back in Roman times there was a feast of Juno on February 14th. Juno was the queen of Roman Gods and Goddesses. February 15th marked the start of the feast of Lupercalia. On the Eve of Lupercalia, it was tradition that all young roman Girls would write their names on a piece of paper and place it in a heart shaped bowl. Young men of similar age would draw a single name from the bowl and that would be their partner for the duration of the festival. Sometimes the pairing would last to the end of the year and many fell in love and married. The Emperor of the time Claudius was trying to expand his Empire and therefore needed more people for his Army. He had noticed that many young Roman males were not joining the army because they were marrying young or wishing to stay with their families, so Claudius decreed that all engagements and marriages should be cancelled.

Valentine a Priest continued to secretly marry young Romans in private until he was caught, imprisoned and sentenced to death. Whilst in prison, he started to receive notes of love and flowers from people he had helped. He even received visits from supporters and in particular from the daughter of the Prison Guard. They fell in love , and before his execution, Valentine left a note for this girl thanking her for her love and friendship and signed it 'from your Valentine'.

To this day February 14th is a day where people remember and think about love and friendship and reflect that whatever happens in life, Love cannot be beaten !
Valentine became immortalized as people remember and celebrate St. Valentines Day every February 14th.

Phalaenopsis Orchids

by Richard Moore 13. October 2009 11:56

If I had a pound for every time i had been asked how to look after a Phalaenopsis Orchid plant, I could have retired to the South of France by now. Despite being one of our best sellers for many many years, and despite each plant carrying a care card (which always seems to be eaten by some magical label eater), this is especially for you if you have just bought one of these plants.

Water sparingly (half a cup of water once a week), but more if the flowers look floppy.

Keep in light but not sunlight

Keep between 18-22 centigrade.

Once it has flowered, cut back stem to the second node up from the base.

Do not try and cover the grey roots - they like daylight.

Do not repot in soil- they like bark.

That's it ! The recipe to  successful Phalaenopsis growing. If however, your plant has suffered too much care or water, we have some beautiful white  3 stem exapmles in our castle street branch at the moment. £19.99 each including the pot, but mention this blog and you can have one for £15 !

60 minute makeover

by Richard Moore 13. October 2009 11:46
I know I haven't posted for a while, but it has been so busy and one of the reasons was the preparation for the ITV programme, 60 minute makeover. This was the second one we have done in the last 2 months and this time I got to meet Linda Barker who was really lovely. She is  tall, elegant, very beautiful and great fun to talk to. Oh and her designs were amazing as well ! Sadly I'm not allowed to tell you any more details or show you any photos until the programme has aired, but it was a great experience on both occasions. For those who will ask the obvious question, yes it really is put together in 60 minutes of mad television.

Wedding 22nd August 2009

by Richard Moore 9. September 2009 07:44

Ros and Tom had their reception at the Racquets Hotel in Liverpool. The theme was "English Summer flowers" with a simple country look. After lots of consultation, i think the reults were fabulous. May we wish you & Tom many years of happiness together.

St. Cecilia roses, pink astrantia, scabious, astilbe, pink eustoma, alchemelia mollis, brodea, pink snowberry, with rosemary. A perfect summer flower bouquet !

Entrance Hall table, Raquets Hotel. - St. Cecilia roses, brodea, scabious, rosemary, eucalyptus and eustoma.

St.cecilia rose and rosemary, to decorate the Bar tables - Scented Heaven !

St Cecilia roses, scabious, eucalyptus, astilbe, alchemelia mollis, brodea, astrantia and eustoma make a lovely country table arrangement. Presented in a Glass Cube Vase.

A formal traditional setting with a country twist. Perfect !

The mantlepiece arrangements had to be big, but retain the country feel and look, so we used monte casino, larkspur, st.cecilia, scabious, mollis and Delphinium to create the height and  asparagus fern , eucalyptus and oak leaf to give a

natural flowing look.

What Flowers Should I Have ?

by Richard Moore 5. August 2009 07:10

This is the question we get asked every day. We don't always have an immediate answer, but through a process of consultation with a steady eye on Budget, we normally manage to get it right for your event. Start with a few ideas, maybe a few pictures cut out of a magazine. decide on the design that you favour, but for the moment, ignore the colours. If this is hard to imagine, try and just look at a design in White and green. It is normally easier to then imagine your favourite flowers/colours added. Try these tall table designs for example.

Although these designs are similar, they both give a very different image. the first gives a distinct coutry garden English feel. Perfect for a large Victorian style building . The second design utilises Molucella, giving a modern design twist to a traditional vase. Both have Avalanche roses, eucalyptus and Monsterra leaves.

Now, all you need to do is add your favourite colours, flowers, the shape of the tables, the time of year, a special design twist unique to you and hey presto you have the perfect flower solution ! Well, it's not quite that simple, but this process normally helps.

Event Flowers

by Richard Moore 5. August 2009 04:19

It has been really busy with Brides just recently. We have had a lot of consultations for weddings later this year and next year, some confirming the final details and some just making enquiries. Either way, it is wonderful to be so busy even if it means I haven't been keeping up to date with my blogs. Anyway, here is an event we did on the 14th July at the ACC, which I forgot to post.
